The Macleay's Spectre is originally from Australia and is one of the more hardier species. In the picture on the left is a newly hatched Macleay's Spectre. When they first hatch they can move quite quickly and appear ant-like.This is because in the wild they would hatch in an ants nest.

The second picture (left) shows Macleay's Spectre eggs. There is a 'blob' on the top of the egg which appeals to ant workers which fools them into taking them underground to be used as food later on. However, the eggs (or ova) are rarely eaten and survive to make a dash for the nearest tree when they hatch.
